Rien…mais je sais qu’il est trop tard. J’essaie de comprendre ce qui vient de se passer. Un traumatisme cranien isolé est rarement la cause d’un arrêt cardiorespiratoire…Nous continuons la réanimation pendant quelques minutes. Rien. Je déclare le décès. Je sors du véhicule pour annoncer la triste vérité aux parents effondrés…il ya bien une phrase dénuée de tout sens que j’exècre à dire dans mon métier…”Je suis désolé“…Les parents sont mutiques, tétanisés par le choc. J’essaie de comprendre les faits. Une amie des parents est aussi présente. Elle me regarde les larmes aux yeux et me dit “vous faites un métier difficile…”, je me retiens de pleurer…j’ai les yeux qui brulent mais je dois continuer mon job, m’assurer que le soutien psychologique des parents sera assuré, continuer mon enquête morbide, passer le relais aux gendarmes. Nous montons le corps de l’enfant dans sa chambre à la demande de sa mère qui voulait la voir une dernière fois dans son lit. A côté de cette pièce, le lieu du drame. Je vois le sang sur le parquet, cette fichue télévision sur le sol…et je comprends ce qui s’est passé. La petite fille a du tirer sur les cables. Le meuble n’était pas très stable. L’ensemble s’est effondré sur ce petit corps…et la mécanique fut comparable à ce que nous appelons “le coup du lapin“…traumatisme cervical violent responsable d’ une dysjonction des vertèbres C1-C2 provoquant l’arrêt cardiaque dans cette circonstance. Rien n’aurait pu la sauver.
Le silence est d’or sur le chemin du retour…les esprits sont martelés. Mais il n’y a pas de pause, point de répit. Il faut toujours avancer, tourner la page. Et recommencer dans une heure, ou deux…
